Clayton Chapin with Robert Cline Jr.

Clayton Chapin with Robert Cline Jr.

Clayton Chapin is a singer/songwriter out of New Braunfels, Texas. Growing up, Clayton was introduced to Gary Stewart, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and many more at a young age. He remembers his father always playing their music in the truck on the way to school.

Music has always been a big part of Clayton’s life, but when he started putting pen to paper music became much more.

Today Clayton is focused on writing every day and releasing music that people can relate to.

Robert Cline, Jr. travels from the Texas Plains to Colorado Rockies to the waters of The Shoals to find his calling – preaching the good news of this legendary place of American music. It’s quite magical and mystifying – no one can put the finger on how it’s so lush with sound. But it is.

When you move to a new area, you wanna know where to get the best coffee, the freshest meats, and a good watering hole. Robert Cline, Jr has found his waters of inspiration – deep in the sounds of American Mojo. After traveling thousands of miles, Cline has found his new hometown.

“Hello, my name is Robert Cline Jr. Thank you for taking a moment to listen to American Mojo and to hear the story of my pursuit of the American dream and my journey as a troubadour. When I started this project, I could never have imagined where I would be today. With this album, I hope to share my insight and passion so that you too find your Mojo.

Early on in my songwriting career, I was introduced to Kent Finlay (one of the founding songwriters of the Hill Country movement and founder of Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcos, Texas) and it was Gary Hartman, the Director of the Center for Texas Music History, who made the introduction.  Gary arranged an opportunity for me to play for Kent and after the show, he encouraged me to try my hand at writing my songs. So I stepped up to the challenge.

Then in slow-motion musical fashion, I met The Subdudes, the New Orleans groove band, who then took me under their wing to foster me as a songwriter and performer. The title track “American Mojo” takes place down in New Orleans, where ‘the dudes’ are from originally. John Magnie, the band leader, produced my debut album All The Right Reasons. Together with Steve Amedee, I began playing solo and band gigs honing my skills.

Fast forward to my old stomping grounds of Austin, Texas during the SXSW Music Festival that I had a chance meeting with The Muscle Shoals Swampers– the legendary session players that played on a lot of American rock, R&B, country and blues records for the past 40 years. Aretha Franklin called them “greasy.”

Austin Gilliam

Austin Gilliam

Standing at 6’5; with his mountain man beard, edgy baritone and beefy guitar lines, Gilliam strikes a commanding presence onstage. In 2010, tired of waiting on lead singers to hire him, he pulled on his front man boots and created his own opportunities. “A bunch of my friends were side musicians as well and we all needed money so I was like, ‘Screw it, I’ll start my own project,’” Gilliam recounts with the earthy practicality of a working musician who earned his chops in the bar scene. “I had five original songs and played covers the rest of the time, but I made it work. That’s how it went for the first six months. I was still a side guy until one day in 2014, when I looked at my calendar and realized I had booked myself solid with my own gigs instead of playing guitar or bass for somebody.

Cole Stephens

“Chasing music as an independent artist isn’t for the faint of heart,” Stephens says. “Texas is a big state, and for the last three years I’ve spent more time in my truck than anywhere else. My family thinks it’s strange that I enjoy it, but that’s where I do my best thinking and problem solving.” Stephens is adamant that songwriting often comes from experiences that aren’t always easy or pleasing, but help you learn on the road of life.

Kensie Coppin with Chuck Briseno

Kensie Coppin is a traditional country singer-songwriter originally from Temple, Texas. Known for her powerhouse vocals and "old soul" songwriting style, she has been performing since the age of eight and famously sang on the Grand Ole Opryat 11 and 12 years old.

Chuck Briseno is an independent country and Americana artist born and raised in George West, Texas. Summers spent in Cushing and Drumright, Oklahoma with his mom helped shape his deep love for Red Dirt music. While growing up in South Texas, he was raised on a mix of Tejano, country, and Red Dirt sounds — from riding the backroads blasting The Great Divide to hunting crawdads in the Oklahoma dirt, sneaking into buffalo pastures, and playing baseball with the sounds of Pat Green in the background during batting practice. Music was always more than a soundtrack — it was a way of life.
